Description
My favourite stretch of Rivoli is this block at the western end of the Tuileries. The soothing symmetry of the colonnade was almost devoid of traffic after the Bastille Day parade closed the street. Most of the famous monuments existed before Baron Haussmann had his way with the city, but the way we see them now is in large part due to his plan. Anytime you encounter a wide, long, symmetrical and crazily beautiful avenue, it’s a result of Haussmann’s bulldozing what came before it. Paris aged naturally, but Haussmann was its plastic surgeon.
This listing is for one solid pine wood photo block typically described as 6×6, though the milled size puts it closer to 5.5 inches square. It is just shy of 1 inch deep. The toner print is applied and revealed by hand, and is drawn from my personal photography. The back of the piece is titled, signed and dated in ink. You will receive the print shown in this listing’s photographs.
The block is sold without any hanging hardware. I recommend mounting it with Command Strips, or standing it upright on a desk, shelf or mantelpiece – it will stand on any flat surface. Note that the wood will deepen into a honey colour with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight (I think this makes the wood look nicer!)
