“Lion Roundel” – City of Delight #14

$75.00

As an historical site, the Pantheon leaves a lot to be desired: The tombs of France’s greatest citizens are cold and cookie cuttered, with nothing more than a plaque to differentiate Marie Curie from Jean Moulin. The temple itself, though, is a treat. A huge, soaring dome, columns galore, and some nice architectural details, such as this carved wooden star above the exit door. Come for the stiffs, stay for the sights.

Description

Part of my door obsession stems from the beautiful embellishments that are commonly found on European doors. This brass lion shines out from what would otherwise be a plain door. You can’t go wrong adding a touch of glamour to mundane objects. My suburban neighbourhood in particular could stand some bedazzling with architectural ornaments.

My artworks are toner photo prints, handcrafted on 8×8″ wood blocks. To differentiate them from my regular photo blocks, I am adding a metal leaf border and a cast-metal fleur de lys clavos at the corner of each piece, which will come with a signed certificate of authenticity indicating that it is a unique print created for the “City of Delight” project. The blocks are freestanding but can also be mounted using hanging hardware (I can provide this upon request, at extra cost). I have set the price of each piece at $75 to reflect Paris’ famous “75” postcode. 20% of my profits will be donated to UNESCO and the UNHCR at the end of 2016.
