This is the Chateau de Chenonceau – the “women’s castle” in the Loire valley, which I was fortunate enough to see last year on a bus tour. It’s cognomen is from the line of female owners, though the medieval castle does have a particularly feminine look to it which lasts even to today, if my Disney-loving niece’s reaction is anything to go by. I sent her a birthday card with this photo on the front, and she lost her 3 year old mind: “IT’S A PRINCESS CASTLE!!!”
